It was a incredibly hot and sunny Friday as the GUYS headed out for a round at Burnaby’s Riverway Golf Course (municipal).
Riverway has one of the best value/$ ratios in the GVRD, and a terrific practice range. The back nine plays easier, so you come in after your round feeling good about it.
Unfortunately, there were no cameras or recording devices on hand, or there would be a more detailed entry. Here’s some quick highlights:
Full Review
(All scores are ranked from 1 to 5 “beers,” and averaged from the feedback of all four players)
Course Conditions:

(Well maintained for a muni)
Value for cost:

($48 weeekends, plays like $70)
Beer Rules/Cart Staff:

(Cans allowed on course, no beer cart)
Drinking Water on Course:

(Water fountains on course, warmish water)
Pace of Play:

(Dilligent marshalls, pace dependent of groups ahead of you. It’s a muni)
Difficulty Rating:

(Some nasty hazards, plenty of fairway)
Staff and Service:

(Pleasant in the Pro Shop, excellent in the cafe)
Verdict: Great go-to course if you live nearby, as rates are affordable and it plays quite well. We’ll be back, Riverway.

Riverway also has a great ladies league on Monday evenings: Golf 9 holes and enjoy a beverage and dinner in the clubhouse while collecting your prizes for everything from kp to shortest drive. Better prizes too.
I’ve won everything from socks to a putter. They’ve also given away nice pull carts and free rounds. Golf and prize pool cost around $25-$30. The good thing about this league is you don’t have to pre-pay at the beginning of the year. You simply come out when you can and pay as you go. Being a woman, we would also rate the bathroom facilities on the course and Riverway has a great bathroom on the course. Much better than the stinky outhouses at Furry Creek!
Four “beers” for Riverway on this and only one beer for Furry Creek (the smell alone would make you barf up the one beer so that really leaves you with no beers at all).
Good point, Joanne.
We give every course a 5/5 for bathrooms, as long as there are at least a few small bushes around here and there…
Hi Joanne,
For the women’s league, do you women often attend with a friend or are there single that who up and are adding to a group?
Thanks Judy
